I don't understand the primary universe and tangent universe thing!. Why would the tangent universe go away if Donnie dies on October 2!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

The time when the plane engine crashed into Donnie's room is a point in time where the primary and tangent universe split!. If Donnie stays in his room and dies, then the tangent universe, where Donnie affected all ot of peoples lives, doesn't exist!.

The story is based on the concept that there are alternate or tangent universes!. There is a school of thought that indicates that there is an alternate universe to accommodate each possible number of decisions we can make in our lives!.
Donnie essentially went back in time to save his girlfriend because he knew what was coming and he sacrificed his own life to save Gretchen, and ultimately the tangent universe!.
Future Frank (apparently a past friend of a friend) told Donnie all that would happen and it all hinged on the jet engine crash, (so since he was warned that time was looping back around to that event), either Donnie stays in bed, dies and his girlfriend lives (he wouldn't have met her had he been in bed in the first place AND she wouldn't have died if she hadn't met HIM), OR he stays out of the house and lives but Gretchen dies!.
Really, it's a love story where the protagonist sacrifices himself for his woman!.
As for WHERE future Frank came from, there's no clear answer to that other than the fact that he might have discovered time travel like Donnie did OR it was Donnie who accidentally discovered time travel and hence had these (apparently) uncontrolled visitations with future Frank who apparently was trying to right his wrong by giving Donnie the warning about staying in bed when the jet engine crashes into the house!.
Apparently, Donnie was meant to die as far as I can tell AND meant to meet Gretchen!. But, he couldn't live WITH Gretchen!. That's the conundrum that drives the plot!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

The entire movie after the jet engine falls into his room was taking place in an alternate universe!. Donnie was seeing what would happen if he didn't die!. (ie; That girl would get run over and Frank would get shot!.)

because the end of the world was coming remember!.!.!.!.thats what frank was trying to tell him!. all of those things donnie did like vandalizing his school, burning down richard cunninghams house and shooting franks eye at grandma deaths house were things he had to do in order to save the world from coming to an end!.!.!.!.!.i suggest watching the movie over 1 or 2 more times to fully get it!. its my absolute favorite movie!. hope this helps!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
hell, im more confused about the two different soundtracks to the movie! in one they play "never tear us apart" by INXS in the beginning, and in another verison they play some GAY *** tune!.!.!. dont get me started on the primary universe vs the tangent universe! lolWww@Enter-QA@Com
He wouldn't have met the people he met and he wouldn't have done the things hes done, so everything would go on just fine without him!. He was meant to die!. and by living, it caused others to die!. So him dying makes everything go back to how it was suppose to be!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
