Answers:
You can say a lot of things about Star Wars fans but at least we are somewhat consistent !.!.!. lol !.!.!. I doubt you get anybody who answers this question, well !.!.!. if they are actually trying to answer it instead of try out some "new lame" Star Wars joke on us, to say anything other than either Truce At Bakura or The Thrawn Trilogy!.

Truce is set the day after the events of Return Of The Jedi and is a very good read but I personally don't believe that it would be a very good introduction to the Star Wars EU (Expanded Universe) of books!.

If you want to read a book that almost gives you the same feeling you got when you saw the movies in the theaters then the Thrawn Trilogy is the way to go !.!.!. these 3 books should be the first ones that anybody who is just getting into the books of Star Wars should read because they give you, first and foremost, a great storyline, very, very well done introductions to new characters who will dominate the stories of the other books, and just a feeling of the magic is back!. The titles of the 3 books of the Thrawn Trilogy are ,,, "Heir To The Empire" !.!.!. "Dark Force Rising" !.!.!. "The Last Command" !.!.!. they were written by Hugo Award winning author Timothy Zahn!. Zahn is the absolute king of the Star Wars EU !.!.!. if it was written by Zahn then it is a damned good book!. Without these 3 books we wouldn't even be here talking about Star Wars !.!.!. there would have been no SE versions of the movies !.!.!. I'm sure they would have been put out on DVD sometime but it would be the original versions and that would be it !.!.!. and we would never have gotten the prequel movies !.!.!. these three books are what brought the story of Star Wars back from the dead in 1990!. I remember when I first saw "Heir To The Empire" in the book store !.!.!. my blood pressure went through the roof thinking that it was just another half witted idea about someone's idea of what Star Wars was !.!.!. just like all the books and comics that had come out from '83 to '90 !.!.!. I hate to say it but it really seemed like Stan Lee was trying to kill Star Wars because the comics that Marvel put out about Star Wars were just plain horid!. I remember storming out of the store mumbling under my breath that people should leave my Star Wars story alone!. After a week or so I said the hell with it and bought it !.!.!. I was fully prepared to hate it and was very bias about the book as I started to read it!. I was never so happy to be wrong about something in my entire life!. I wasn't more than 10 pages into the book when I could have sworn I heard the "Main Title" theme to Star Wars playing in the back of my mind!. A couple days later I went and got the second book, Dark Force Rising and continued to soak up yet another great chapter in the Star Wars saga!. I had to wait I about 4 months before the third book, The Last Command, came out and to this day it is one of only a couple books that I have read cover to cover in one setting !.!.!. that book grabbed me and didn't let go until the end of it!.

I really can't say it loud enough or forceful enough that these three books are Star Wars through and through and are the perfect introduction to the Star Wars EU!.

The next set of books to read, IMHO, are the X-Wing books!. The Big 3 of Han, Luke, & Leia do make "cameos" in the books !.!.!. in the last two Han actually plays a huge roll in it!. This set of books tells the story of Wedge Antillies and we learn why he is considered the 3rd best pilot the galaxy has ever seen right behind Anakin & Luke Skywalker!. When these books first came out I ignored them because I didn't think I would like them!. During one of the "lulls" between book releases I was in need of a "Star Wars Fix" so I picked up the first book in that series, there are 9 of them but you could probably get by just reading the first 4 but to get the whole "jist" of what's going on in the stories you need to read the first 8 of them!. The 9th one is a little on the "weird" side but still a decent read!. The main reason why this series is great, and always the second set of books that I recomend when people ask me where to start, is all the background info you get on characters throughout the Star Wars galaxy!.

I know you said you wanted books that featured the Big 3 and I can understand that !.!.!. as I said, I didn't think I would like the X-Wing books either but in the end these X-Wing books and the 3 books of the Thrawn Trilogy give you a very solid foundation and get you ready to read any of the other books that are out there!.

So in short I would have to say start with the Thrawn Trilogy !.!.!. if you wanted to start reading other books that would work too but if you also include the X-Wing books into the mix many things become much clearer in the Star Wars galaxy!.

Anyways, sorry about the ramble I sometimes get carried away !.!.!. lol !.!.!. others that know me would say "sometimes" !.!.!. try always fool !.!.!. lol !.!.!. I hope you find some inspiration in my words and as always !.!.!.

May The Force Be With You !.!.!.

PS: I forgot to say it but you can find a very good time line for the books at DelRey's main site !.!.!. you can also find a good list at theforce!.net !.!.!. and of course starwars!.com is always the final say on all things Star Wars!. I would avoid trusting info found on any of the Star Wars "wiki"s because much of it is being corupted by people with nothing better to do than mess with other people!. I'm not saying to reject info found there but to make sure you should try to find something that backs the story up from another source!.

also !.!.!. beware SuperShadow and his bogus Star Wars site called supershadow!.com!. This guy is a total and complete whack job !.!.!. I don't think there is one thing on his site about Star Wars that is actually correct !.!.!. he is just a grade A blow hole who thinks his opinions on Star Wars are actually the facts and that the facts are somebody elses dumb idea!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

If you would like a direct sequel, "The Truce at Bakura" by Kathy Tyers takes place the day after the events of "Return of the Jedi!."

Further out in the timeline, I'd suspect you would have a hard time finding a book that doesn't at least mention one of the three you've stated!. An excellent place to start is the "Thrawn Trilogy" by Timothy Zahn!. The individual books are, in order, "Heir to the Empire," "Dark Force Rising," and "The Last Command!." Timothy Zahn's "Hand of Thrawn" duology is also quite good, the individual titles being "Specter of the Past" and "Vision of the Future!."

If you would like more titles, do let me know! I'd love to share my knowledge of the Star Wars EU!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think the author was Timmothy Zahn!. He wrote the whats known as the Thrawn Trilogy which takes place 5 years after return of the jedi starting with Heir to the Empire, then Dark Force Rising, and teh Last Command!. It does involve all the original characters!.

This was a good series when it came out in the early 90's!. I only read the first one, back when I was all into Star Wars!. He wrote a bunch of novels in the Star Wars universe!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

What you are seeking is "The Thrawn Trilogy" by Timothy Zahn!. It continues the tales of Luke, Leia, Chewy and Han!. In this future, Han and Leia are married and expecting!.!.!.well, I found these books at my local library!. You probably can, too!. Good luck, and may the !.!.!.you know the rest!Www@Enter-QA@Com

The Truce of Bakura by Kathy Tyers takes place immediately after Episode Six!. It has all the origanl characters and starts after the second Death Star is destroyed!. I've read it twice and it's a very good read!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
