Is this unethical? (Netflix question)?!

Question: Is this unethical!? (Netflix question)!?
Okay!.!.!.so I'm insanely irresponsible to let my insanely irresponsible 8 year old take a DVD over to a friends house!. Long story short, the DVD has not been seen again!. My question is!.!.!.would it be unethical of me to purchase a used copy at a yard sale or on ebay and return it to Netflix!? Would they even know!? They let you return movies without the sleeve!. I'm not going to be REALLY unethical and report it lost in the mail!.!.!.!.its just that they charge $20 per DVD that you do not return that you acknowledge is your fault!.!.!.!.and I know I can find the same thing elsewhere for $3-$5!. Should I buck up, be responsible and pay the $20!.!.!.or should I consider it no harm no foul to return to them a good used copy I find in a bargain bin!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
Actually, if it's the first time you've ever lost a movie (of your own fault), they may not charge you!. I lost (and I mean!.!.!.saw it one day!.!.!.gone the next!.!.!.never to be seen again!.!.!.literally lost) a DVD and reported it as lost and since it was my first time, they didn't charge!. If it becomes a frequent thing (or even if it's your 2nd time), then they may start charging!. Check into that before doing anything else!.

If you can find the same thing that's in excellent condition, I don't think it's that big of a deal!.!.!.nothing to feel guilty or torment your self over!. The one time I sent a DVD back w/out the sleeve, they reported it "lost" anyway!.!.!.I guess b/c they didn't have a barcode!? Who knows!. Anyway, call their customer service center and see what your options are!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

mayb this is unethical!.!.but just say it got lost in the mail or one of the other options that does not include being ur fault!.!.they let u get away with like 2 a year i think!.!.!.i mean things do get lost in the mail and people do know what is in that red envelope ya know!? so just say it got lost in the mail or choose one of the other options!.!.i know people that say it got lost and keep it!.!.lol!.!.but def!. do not pay the 20 dollars and dont replace it becuz their dvd labeling do not look like the dvd u buy in the store!.!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think if you can find another mass produced (not burned on a pc) copy in perfect condition to return, they'd be ok with it!. Do they put any special markings or labels to show that it came from Netflix!?!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

I would just pay the $20, because Netflix marks all of their DVD's!. They used to put a sticker on it, but now they but a laser tag on it!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

First off, I commend you for not asking what I thought you were going to ask, which is whether it's ethical to report it lost in the mail and not have to pay for it!. That, despite what some other posters here may suggest, is definitely unethical!.

It does seem silly that you should have to pay a $20 replacement fee for a disk that you can buy for less than $5!. However, Netflix marks their disks and they will know!. For whatever, reason, they may not want you to do that!. What you should do is call customer service, explain the situation, and give them your offer to replace the disk!. I don't see why they wouldn't do that!.

Something similar happened to me with a library book that I lost!. I just told a librarian that I'd be happy to buy a new copy of the book and turn it in, and he agreed to let me do that and didn't charge me a lost book fee or a fee for processing the new book!. I'll bet you that's what Netflix will do as well

Good luck!Www@Enter-QA@Com
