Los Angeles detective Jake Gittes is hired by a woman claiming to be a Mrs!. Mulwray to spy on her husband!. Shortly after Gittes is hired, the real Mrs!. Mulwray appears in his office threatening to sue if he doesn't drop the case immediately!. Gittes pursues the case anyway, slowly uncovering a vast conspiracy centering on water management, state and municipal corruption, land use and real estate, and involving at least one murder!.
"Chinatown" is one of those films referred to as an essential, one every film fan should watch!. It's a wonderful mystery, but you can't say that what it does hasn't been done in others!. It's simply done in a better, more interesting way than its predecessors!. At that time, they didn't rely on gore and bloody violence as much as nowadays, and you won't hear the "f word" thrown around, at least not that I recall!. There are violent moments, but they definitely are not like "Pulp Fiction" and "The Godfather" films!.
"The Two Jakes" is a sequel to "Chinatown", but it's not as good!. But, you might want to give it a look someday!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

1!. Definately suspenseful, lots of twists and turns and Nicholson rules the screen in this one!.!.!.
2!. It's not too violent, and I would certainly not say the violent scenes are "Gory"!.!.!.there is the scene with the nose though!.!.!.that'll make you jump!.!.!.

4!. It's sort of a modern re-telling of the old Greek Tragedy!.!.!.he keeps looking for the answers even to the point where the answers are going to do him more harm than good!.!.!.I like the film, and I'm not going to tell you anymore because I think you should go out and get it!!!

Like so much this movie!.!.!.!.i have it on dvd!.!.!.!.watch it every six months!.!.!.!.wonderful script!.!.!.!.soundtrack unforgettable (great Jerry Goldsmith performed)!.!.!.!.!.!.!.Faye Dunaway is such a great actress like also Jack, obviously!.
