Answers:
Name Ewok was developed from Wookee!. See more data:

From the Databank (official Star Wars data source):
"The Ewoks find their origins in the original Star Wars drafts, when tribes of Wookiees united to repel the technologically superior Imperials from their forest world!. As Star Wars developed, writer George Lucas pared down the number of Wookiees to one, Chewbacca, and established him as a sophisticated being able to operate advanced machinery!. When he was able to realize a massive ground battle of primitives versus an advanced foe, Lucas transformed the Wookiees into Ewoks!."

From Wookiepedia:
"George Lucas intended that a primitive race should overthrow the Empire in the final episode, and had originally planned to use Wookiees, but decided against it after it had been established that Chewbacca was proficient with technology!. His answer was to create a new race called Ewoks, which is "Wookiee" with the syllables reversed!. A little-known fact is that the Ewoks are never referred to by name in Return of the Jedi's dialogue; the name only appeared in the script directions, the novelization, the movie's credits, and other spin-off and promotional materials!.

It is believed by some fans that Ewoks are modeled after Hobbits, the short and easily overlooked people who caused the dark lord Sauron's demise in Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings!. Lucas chose the word Endor for the moon's planet to honor this, since it is the name of Middle-earth in one of the fictional languages of elves, Quenya, for the Middle-earth is the setting of most of Tolkien's stories!."Www@Enter-QA@Com

The Devil visited George Lucas and offered him even more money in return for calling his latest creature-invention "Ewoks" in return for the ruining of the Star Wars franchise with respects to quality!. That's why Ewoks are the most evil invention in all of cinema and why Lucas lives on his own ranch, harvesting olives while being overlooked by his own fire department!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
