Answers:
I feel like Alien was THE movie to break grounds on so many levels!. Call me old-fashioned, but I haven't seen anything that's come even close to that yet!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Definitely Alien!. I agree with all the reasons that you give for it being better!.
The atmosphere of the film is so creepy and scary!. The eery quietness of space combined with the trapped feeling of being in a spaceship and not being able to escape is a frightening thought!.
The characters of Alien are better too because they have such a wide variety of them and they interact so well with one another!.
I think The Thing is a more typical horror film (although I do like it), whereas Alien seemed to break new ground!.
Plus Alien has one of the greatest scenes in all of film with the "chestbursting" scene and a wonderfully disturbing tagline: "In space, no one care hear you scream!."Www@Enter-QA@Com

While both of them are exceptional horror/ sci fi movies, they could actually fall into two different categories!.

ALIEN, the masterpiece that it is, is actually more suspense and building to that incredible climax with Ripley facing off with the Alien in the escape shuttle!.

The THING is more horror/ sci fi when you consider the amount of blood, gore and tell me the scene with The Thing absorbing the dogs doesnt gross you out!

I liked the acting more in The Thing, but I also think Kurt Russell is an underappreciated actor with more range than people give him credit for!.

I would pick The Thing over Alien on the acting alone!.

But the originality of taking the "boogeyman" theory and turning it into an unrelenting monster that does nothing but kill would give Alien an edge over the remake of The Thing!.

John Carpenter also did incredible work with the score, as with all his movies, in The Thing!.

I would go with The Thing over Alien!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Alien, by miles!. That's true blue science fiction in terms of story line, atmosphere, character development & ***-kicking, nail biting action!. With whatever special effects technology available at that time, it still scared the **** out of viewers and spawned off three sequels and god knows how many spin-offs like AVP!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

You're kidding me,right!? Don't get me wrong,"The Thing" definately had it's own thing going for it and is without doubt one of the best remakes ever(no samll accomplishment)>But,for my money,"Alien" is still the champ!. For instance, they took a basic"haunted house"story and set it in space"where no one can hear you scream"as the tag line went!. Then, they made it very dark, and very sooty as in the design of the space ship!. No "Star Trek" gleam and gloss here,it was a working, rusty old bucket of a ship, despite all the technology!. Then, little by little, they began to ratchet up the creep factor with the discovery of the eggs in the abandoned alien ship!. Then the fun really begins!. The face-hugger has got to be one of THE most innovative creatures ever invented!. And it that weren't enough, they made it(through osmosis)bigger, creepier(if that was possible)and meaner!.
Then of course, there was Signourney Weaver as Ellen Ripley, one of the best(and first)well-written,believable heroines seen in a long time!. And it's her performance that makes the whole thing go(Though Veronica Cartwright gets the big,chest-heaving moments)!.She plays Ripley like a cello!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

That's tough, I loved them both!. I think I'll have to go for Alien though, just for Sigourny Weaver, she was fantastic!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

The Thing had great pacing!. John Carpenter's re-make thriller was good from start to finish!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Alien by far!.!.!.what a concept!.!.I really love that movie!.!.!.I have seen it probably 15 times, and enjoy it every time !Www@Enter-QA@Com
