For the feminists out there...?!

Question: For the feminists out there!.!.!.!?
Anybody else hate it when a movie has a female in it just to be the object of lust for the main male character and a helpless item to be rescued!?

I'm a huge comic book nerd girl, so I appreciate the comic genre on my own level!. But it seems like every big blockbuster (especially Marvel) based-on-a-comic-book movie that has come out since 2000 has 'the girl'!. As in, 'boy meets girl, boy acts like a geek, boy eventually gets girl'!. Usually this girl has little or no character development, is gorgeous and stacked, and spends the entire movie running around getting in the way or getting captured by the villain!.

Examples -
Spiderman: Mary Jane (Kirsten Dunst)
Transformers: Mikaela (Megan Fox)
Hulk: Betty (Liv Tyler)

How do you think these movies affect the kids that see them!? I realize most of the glitz is distracting, but do you think these movies leave a lasting impression on the watchers, usually young boys, that women are useless pretty objects!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
A comment above mentioned men being portrayed in Thelma & Louise as an example of 'male stereotyping', that is hardly the same thing!. That film didn't force a perpetual idealistic image and stereotype onto the audience!. The film was focused on the hardships those women endured, not the cruelty that men are!.

I understand completely what you're saying, and you know what really bugs me when comments like yours are made!? It's people who are ignorant and misunderstand the definition of a feminist!. To make it unequivicol to anyone, a feminist is someone (MALE or female) who believes in gender equality!.

Ok glad that's cleared up to any unsure people!.

Now to your point, yes there are SO many movies that portray women as an object, or an "idealistic" image rather than a person with personality, feelings and a brain!. It's the immense power of the media that feeds us these images of their so called 'perfection' and we are supposed to pay 10 bucks to go see it big on the silver screen!. Or 5 bucks to look at it in a magazine!. Or whatever they throw the image onto to sell to us!.

The sooner they start showing REAL women in the film industry and so forth, the better it will be for women in the real world!. Definitely, young girls and boys are influenced by the portrayal of women in films!. That's why movies like Shrek are great for kids to see!. It totally defeats stereotypes which is awesome!. (And programs like How To Look Good Naked are great for women) As long as children are educated about stereotypes while they are young, then it will have little power over them in their future!.

Great question, thank you!

And you know what this all comes down to!? The Film industry is still dominated by men!. As is politics, sport etc;Www@Enter-QA@Com

Well, that is a hysterically funny 'feminist' complaint you're making!.

Because most 'chick flicks' and especially movies you would generally call 'feminist' movies, & those made by female writers/directors, reduce the men to either mere props in the same way, or they actually portray men as being scum of the earth and responsible for all of life's ills!.

In fact, I see this a hell of a lot more from female directors, than what you're talking about, on a 'per capita' basis (meaning, there are less movies that do this, because there are less female filmmakers)!.

Just look how men are portrayed in say, Thelma & Louise, for instance!.

And by the way, it's absurd to try to make anyone out to be victims in your scenario, because these female actresses benefit greatly from these types of roles - to the tune of tens of millions of dollars a film, for some of them!.

If you don't like it, make your own movies!.

And your conclusion is silly - young boys who think women are useless pretty objects 'usually' end up not getting any!.
They figure out the truth pretty quickly, I think, with the exception of all the women out there who actually reward 'bad boy' behavior, which amazingly, is a HUGE number of women!.
In other words, it is mostly WOMEN, not movies, that cause a lot of men to treat them as 'useless pretty objects', because a lot of you actually find those kind of jerks to be attractive, for some bizarre reason!.
(my pet theory is, most women can't tell the difference between 'confidence' and 'being a selfish as*hole"!.)
These two attributes look pretty much the same to most of you!.
If I'm wrong, then why do so many women end up with psychopathically jerky guys!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

megan fox wasn't exactly in need of any help!.!.she tore some sh*t up herself!.!.!.shouldn't u be in the kitchen cooking or washing clothes instead of worrying about things like this!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

As a feminist myself, the whole idea of women being around just as"arm candy" is so juvevile as to defy description, but you know what!? It's one of the oldest cliche's around, especially,th helpless, frightened ,female who cringes in a corner,or who falls down trying to get away(when we all know a REAL Girl would be haulin' a$$ to beat the band)!. And there's a deep sociological reason(which in no way excuses it)women are socialized to be"nice" and the idea of a women who is her own boss and can stick up for herself is considered "dangerous"Www@Enter-QA@Com
