I was wondering; Ferris's girlfriend and Cameron (his best friend) hold hands for a while, during the part when ferris is on the float!.

They are a very tight group and she's loves Cameron very much (as a friend)!. Cameron was going though a very dificult time in his life, and she was trying to comfort him!.
It's a very touching moment, and great for the character development of both!.
I suspect in later years, Ferris and (Simone!?) probably broke-up, but she and Cameron always remained friends!.

I think it was purely innocent!. I think she (Sloane) truly loved both the boys, but in different ways!.
She's just a good friend!. She also has a kindredship with Cameron because she felt his pain of being restricted by his father!.
