Gangster film I would say The Godfather part II, although Goodfellas is a very close second
War film I would go with Full Metal Jacket
Okay, you obviously need to watch the Godfather to fully appreciate the second!. but the second is a true epic!. It stars both Al Pacino and Robert DeNiro!. Deniro plays Vitto Corleone and tells the story of him coming to the USA, Pacino plays his son Micheal who by Part II is head of the family and is asserting his power within the USA!. These movies tell a gripping story and you watch the character's develop as they yield their power and carry out their activities!. If you haven't watched the godfather please do, then he 2nd!.
