Question: Any real movie buffs!?
I don't mean the 'surface movies', the one's that are widely known!. I mean the independent films and such!. The people who really dig down and find the truly brilliant movies!. Can anyone recommend some amazing movies!? It seems like I haven't really found that many movies that were truly great in a long time!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Depends on what you are looking for!. Cinema has been around for a little over 120 years, and sometimes you gotta dig in the past to find the gems!. Some genre suggestions that you may have not seen yet!.

Comedy:
The Apartment (Billy Wilder starring Jack Lemmon!. That's all you need to know)
Trouble With Harry (a black comedy from Hitchcock)
Manhattan Murder Mystery (black comedy from Woody Allen)

Western:
The Treasure of the Sierra Madre (they don't need no stinkin' badges)
Red River (the Duke is here!.!.with beef and gay innuendos)

Drama:
The Lost Weekend (one of the 1st depictions of alcoholism onscreen)
Shadow of a Doubt (Hitchcock classic)
Breathless (if you like French New-Wave)
Murmur of the Heart (can get a lil' weird with the incest thing!.!.!.)
Tokyo Story (beautiful and so real)
Chungking Express (inspired by FNW but from Hong-Kong)

Sci-Fi/Horror:
Spellbound (Hitchcock's version with G!. Peck)
The Thing (well!.!.!.the thing)

Mildred Pierce (can get a little melodramatic, but you know)

The Lookout (2007)

Mrs!. Palfrey at the Claremont (2005)

NOTE: This is one of the best films I've seen in a long time!. Joan Plowright is wonderful, and Rupert Friend is a find! They play off each other beautifully!.
