Why did Gertrude (Katherine Kaneer's character) only torture Sylvia and not !

Question: Why did Gertrude (Katherine Kaneer's character) only torture Sylvia and not Jenny!?
I am watching the movie "An American Crime" with Ellen Page!.

What I am confused about though is why does Gertrude only torture Sylvia!? I understand she had issues and was angry about not getting money from their parents, but they were Jenny's parents too!.

I've been reading up about the case on google, but there seems to be no explanation for why all her anger and rage is directed toward Sylvia!.

also, when Johnny was feeding the dog, was he purposely holding the dish far away!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

She was a sick woman!.Her daughters spread the rumors that supposedly, sylvia was telling lies about the girls(Gertrudes daughters)!.But there really wasn't any sane reason why she hurt Sylvia and not Jenny!.She was a horrible person and her kids that participated were horrible too!.Those kids didn't even get into any real trouble for what they did!.And Gertrude was able to get out of jail!. 5 years after getting out of prison she died of cancer!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

The mother thought that Sylvia had disclosed publicly that Gertrude's real daughter slept around and, in turn, later becomes pregnant!. I think that was what triggered the anger directed at Sylvia!. Too, Jenny was handicapped with a leg brace (prompting more sympathy) and Jenny was more submissive than her older sister!.
P!.S!.--I keep missing the very beginning of the movie so I think I missed the scene with Johnny feeding the dog!. Several of those other children were very mean spirited with little to no empathy for others--human or otherwise!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
