Anyone can make a movie, given enough money and experience, but very few would-be directors ever have an independent film released to theaters!. In almost any branch of the arts, ten per cent of the artists make ninety per cent of the available money, leaving ten per cent for which the other ninety per cent compete; the same thing is true of the available work!. You'll find yourself competing with many other would-be directors, and you'll have to learn some sort of trade or skill to support yourself, while you train yourself to make movies (and you will have a great deal to learn)!.
The odds are against you, and it is extremely unlikely that you will ever seriously start a movie, let alone finish one!. The one advantage that you'll have over those who went to film school, is that you won't be in debt for student loans!. I wouldn't recommend it, but it's a good idea to know what you're doing, so, you should try to get a job as an assistant of any kind on a movie production and work you're way up the ladder!. It'll be harder and take longer than just saving up and making a movie, but you won't make the crap that Tarantino pushes out!. Hopefully you might make a movie that has a point and isn't just violence, and a hacky narrative technique!. But, a film degree is very much worth it!. You will be able to get a lot of jobs for television, or other productions that you couldn't get without a MFA, to finance a film or two without studio intrusion, and without going into 50,000 dollars debt!. And that is very important, just look at Orson Welles and what he could have done if he'd never had any studio interference!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
First of all, a film degree is next to worthless!. There are a lot of film majors waiting tables and serving drinks behind the bar!.
Save your money and DIY - Do It Yourself!. Tarrantino worked at a video store!. Study the classics, get a good book on cinema at a used book store, study the basics, then PRACTICE your craft!. Get a camera, computer, and editing suite and have fun!. Learn from those before you, and if all else fails, "steal from the best!." Some of the best music/movies/books are by people who wear their influences on their sleeves, eg!. its easy to see who they're influences are b/c their work looks a lot alike!. Strive to get better, work with talented people, and hustle to get your work noticed!. There's no guarantee you'll be rich and famous, but that's true with anything!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
