All three!! It appeals to men (military/action theme)!. It appeals to women (Tom Cruise/Val Kilmer) and it appeals to gays as well (oiled chests whilst playing volleyball!. Lots of locker-room scenes)

It was referred to in an entry level film class I took as "The movie with something for everyone!." We actually had a whole section on Top Gun and how to appeal to everyone at once!. I remember I was happy I could skip the class the day they showed the film (class was at 8 a!.m!.), and just stay in bed and watch it!.
