Answers:
1) No, it represented a more idealistic time period compared to David and Jennifer's modern lives of a single mother struggling to raise two teenagers!.

2) The rose blooming represented Pleasantville's loss of innocence as the characters begin to do their own growth (or blooming)!.

3) The tree bursting in to flames represents Betty's discovery of her sexual being (ie!., her orgasm)!.

4) The scene with the make-up is ironic, because David (Bud) is helping Betty to discover herself and has to help cover her new self to save face in front of George and Big Bob!.

5) I remember she does that at the end, when she leaves Pleasantville!. So, I presume that the glasses symbolize her vision of her new life in Pleasantville time!.

6) The rainbow probably represents renewal and hope!.

7) I don't recall the last lines, but, I assume that it represents the changing of lives and partners!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I believe that the color changes in the movie were brought on by passion!. Most people these days think passion only refers to love, but in fact the word passion refers to the intense feeling of any emotion!. The rose bloomed because of the boys lust for Reece Witherspoon!. The tree burst into flames because of the mother's sexual passion!. The make up scene is ironic because in a town that is turning colorful, Betty's fear is making her hide her colors under black and white make up!. Jenn's glass suggest a young girl going from a physical (sexual) orientation into a more mature (intellectual) one!. What symbolizes a colorful world more than a rainbow, plus of course the religious angle!.The last scene is only a guess, but I think it means that the future is wide open and anything is possible!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
