Question: If you take the kids to the movies see a sequel of some movie from the 80s!.!.!.!?
Do you feel obligated to have them see the original first!?

Example, the new Indiana Jones movie!. If you took your kids to see that, would you had first rented "Raiders of the Lost Ark" so that they knew the characters!? Or doesn't it matter much!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Answers:
I will rent them in those kinds of sequals!.!.!.both for their sake and a memory refresher for myself!.!.!.Of course its not necessary as they always make things pretty clear when they wait decades between sequals!.!.!.But, it makes them a bit more into what is going on rather than in haveing to try to follow it blindly!.!.!.Especially if they are really into those kinds of movies!.!.!.Makes for a fun time too!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

One thing I'd like to mention in-particular that's always impressed me about the Indiana Jones series, is that each movie has the potential to stand on its own two feet!.

Growing up, I did not see the movies in the order that they were made!. In fact, I probably saw "The Last Crusade" first, and most often!.

But what was so striking about these films (and still is) is that you don't -have- to see them in order for them to be enjoyable and make sense!.

Some sequels have a lot of backstory to them, and don't make a whole lot of sense when you see Mr!. X and Ms!. Y meeting awkwardly, and don't know why (because you haven't seen the first movie, where they realized they loved each other, but had married other people)!.

The Indiana Jones series introduces new characters in each film, with enough recurring characters to reward longtime-fans!.

In the end, it's your call on which movies to show to your children, but I wouldn't hesitate to have them see this film first if you don't feel that some of the content is appropriate for the other films (or if you're running out of time before the new one hits the box office!!!)!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It really depends on the movies!. The Indy movies were all stand alone and never continued story lines so it isn't a big deal!. Growing up I remember I always thought Last Crusade was the first one and Raiders was the last, which is completely backwards!. Sure with something that has a timeline you should!. Of course for the new Indy movie I would suggest renting Raiders cause the girl from Raiders is in Crystal Skull!. Of course the trilogy was great so I'd watch it just because they're great movies!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Probably best they don't see the original so they aren't so disappointed with the new one!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Wouldn't matter!. When I took my kid brother to see Star Wars, episode One, he never saw 4, 5 or 6, until some point afterwards!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
