Answers:
!.!.!.the filmmakers played with the story, somewhat, in that respect; in the original story, per the classic animated cartoon, Rex Racer took the Mach One out on the race track, for a race, without Pops permission (!.!.!.Pops did not feel that Rex was ready to take on professional racing, yet)!. Rex was about to win the race, when he lost control of the car, and crashed it, badly; amazingly enough, he walked away from the crash, unharmed, but not before getting a severe berating from Pops!. Torn up emotionally about the whole thing, Rex took off, and ran away from home, to be never heard from again, but promising to himself, to become the greatest race car driver ever!.!.!.!.

!.!.!.!.and later, in assuming the mysterious identity of Racer X, he was able to proudly watch his brother, Speed, assume a respectable position in the racing world, and in participating in the same auto races as Speed (!.!.!.under the guise of being Speed's main competition), he was able to see Speed out of many a dangerous situation, though Speed was, of course, well able to take care of himself, most of the time, and eventually Speed DID have his suspicions, that Racer X was indeed, his brother!.!.!.!.!.

!.!.!.as far as the movie itself, despite the varied bashing of the film, by almost countless critics by now, typically, I'm a pretty mature, indescriminate, open-minded and objective movie watcher (!.!.!.with little to no regard to what the critics say), and I really gotta tell ya'!.!.!.!.!.I absolutely loved this new incarnation of "Speed Racer"!!! Sitting in the darkened theater, and watching this oh-so fantastic film, I was a ten years old kid, again!!! (!.!.!.and it might take a day or so, to turn 45 again!!! Go, Speed, Go!!!) The filmmakers definitely took the adventurous spirit of the classic '60's anime, coupled it with some 'Fast & Furious' dynamics, and wonderfully transfered it to the big screen, albeit in a CGI-enhanced live action form!. The bright and dizzying color scheme was not that far removed from that of the movie, "Dick Tracy", but propelled at a breath-taking 250 miles per hour!. Admittedly, It was a little goofy, at first, character-wise, as it seems that the film was produced in a linear fashion, and as such, it was like the actors had to 'grow' into their characters (!.!.!.i!.e!., the acting seemed forced), but after the first hour or so, character and storywise, things lightened up quite a bit!. And when the action kicked in, it was like!.!.!.!.!.!.!.WOW!!! I caught myself several times, grasping my theater chair arm rests, and holding on tight!!! It was so engaging a film, that you forget about the fact that the movie is two-hours-plus long!.!.!.!.!.

!.!.!.!.I recommend it to anyone, but especially the devoted fans of the 'Speed Racer' cartoon (!.!.!.who will easily latch onto familiar character names, and object names, like the nefarious Cruncher Block, the sneaky Snake Oiler, and the infamous GRX engine)!!!!Www@Enter-QA@Com
