I saw this video on youtube about some religious people protesting in the rain and say things like daemons are evil It makes m think that they are acting like the magesterium(Evil church in book)!. Daemons are based of a native american religion!. Why dont they just read the book before they protest in the rain!? also they say that daemons are evil!. This is something that the Religious Right and the Moral Majority fears the most!.

It's a freakin' work of fiction!

People really need to get over themselves!.

This is just as stupid as when all those priests and parents with absolutely NOTHING better to do with their lives decided to ban the Smurfs cartoon back in the day!.

They said that the Smurfs were teaching kids Satanic rituals and witch craft because there was a scene where Papa Smurf was in his lab, he lit some candles, waved his hand and some books flew off his shelf!.

Too many ignorant people with their mindless conformity, brianwashed bigotry, and intolerance!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It's kind of funny, but within your paragraph you stated that the book is against God!. The Magesterium (the evil church, as you put it) represents the Catholic Church!. It's depicted in an extremely negative light in the book, I'm not a religious person but I can see how that would upset some!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Because it is!. It's anti-Catholic to be specific!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Because it is!. I'm sorry, but that is the truth!. The writer of the book even admited openingly that his story is about killing God!. I've even talked to people who read the stories and they all clearly have said that the message in the book is about killing God!.

You wont really see it in the movie, because Hollywood sugar coded it!. But didn't really do them much good, as the movie didn't make much money in North America, the singing chickmunks made a lot more opening week then Compass did!.

Just google the writers name, it wont be that hard to find!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think that they (religious protesters) are just looking for something to riot about!. Nowaday, people aren't god fear (supposedly) with girls getting pregnant, teens doing drugs, the people just need something to complain about!. My friend isn't aloud to read Harry Potter, because JK Rowling is the devil (his Mom says that) How wierd is that!? I'm Christian, but I stick to my beleives no matter how many books I read about "killing god!." I know what I beleive in, and just because other people say golden compass and stuff are sinful and ungodly doesn't change that!. These people need to understand that this iis fiction!. FICTION!Www@Enter-QA@Com

I remember reading an extensive article on this in Entertainment Weekly about the time the film came out, and in it the author stated that the book WAS indeed about killing God!.

The author of the books is an atheist who is in fact very critical of religion, and based the Magesterium on the Catholic Church, which makes the theme of this fictional book very real!.

And some people protest an author's expression of his personal beliefs because they see it as an attack on THEIR beliefs!. They likely would not go out to buy and read the book before condemning it because they would see it as a way of contributing to the attack on their religion, etc!.

I'm not saying you are in the wrong or anything, but I do recommend you try to look up that article!. It was the cover story for the December 2007 issue, I think, and it will help you to understand the argument of those who view the book as offensive!.

(I'd have to say that I agree with you, though, about the Daemons being criticized as evil or whatever!. Very stupid, and probably only being talked about because the name is so similar to "demon!.")Www@Enter-QA@Com
