Why didn't Beowulf succeed as a film?!

Question: Why didn't Beowulf succeed as a film!?
I thought the acting (voices) was excellent, the creative artwork astonishing, the story more than an insipid action film, and the characters well developed!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I was disappointed that it was animated!. With all of the CGI stuff these days, I would have thought that they would have made the movie with people instead of animation!. I think that this is the reason why it didn't succeed!. It may have also been that Beowulf is meant to be a story that is told aloud!. It leaves a lot to the imagination!. I didn't think that Grendel looked anything like what I had envisioned!. Which leads me to my last point!. How many people actually like the movie based on the book that they just read!? I am yet to find a movie adaptation that I like better than the book!. So many people have read Beowulf in school that maybe this is what occurred!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Everyone I talked to hated it!. I was very disappointed in it as well!. I had seen the live action version that was released on dvd the year before and it was excellent and the filmmakers tried to make it as true to the original story as possible!. Even the ridiculously campy "horror" version starring Christopher Lambert from many years ago was better than this one, as stupid as it was!. This version should have come with a disclaimer saying "names of characters have been borrowed but the story is not even remotely similar to the original poem at all"!.

I also hated the fact that it was animated!. Most adults I know aren't into cartoons and it definitely wasn't intended for kids!. The animation wasn't even that good in many spots, mediocre at best!. CGI technology is supposed to improve with time, not get worse!. Even CGI from 10 years ago was higher quality than this!.

I had absolutely no respect or sympathy for any of the characters with the exception of Grendel!. Definitely a waste of money in my book!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Basically, it got bad reviews!. I was thinking about seeing it when it came out, but the reviews turned me away!. Many others probably did the same thing!.

also, after reading Beowulf in Jr!. High, I wasn't all that interested in going over the story again!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

To Kat and Kelsey, it lost 68 million dollars domestically!. I would say that was a failure!.

To Shailesh G, I would beg to differ!. Beavis and Butt-Head Do America made 5 times it's budget!. The Simpsons movie more than doubled it's budget!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

i read the book

ppl now a days arent that interested in that kind of stuffWww@Enter-QA@Com

It was actually a huge disappointment!. There is an older version of it too!. You should watch it and compare and contrast!. I have never seen the older version though!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

lt did well in the box-office!.
lt's not faithful to the real story of Beowulf so some crirtics gave it an unsatisfactory evaluation!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Because Animated Films Are Generally For Children!. Beowulf Was Film Targeted At Adults Who Generally Have No Interest in Watching Animated Films!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I thought the movie was great but many people I know just thought it was alright!. I went and seen it fresh and never even heard of the poem!. So maybe thats why!.Www@Enter-QA@Com
