Why does childbirth in movies/on tv just take a minute or two? Water breaks, and!

Question: Why does childbirth in movies/on tv just take a minute or two!? Water breaks, and oops, out pops baby!.!.!.!?
Why can't they be more realistic!.!.!. It's not like a woman's water breaks and they have to rush to the hospital!. It can take hours for the baby to finally come out!.

Why cant movies be a little more realistic about it!? The only movie I've seen that did a pretty good job at the birth scene was "Knocked Up"!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Yeah, it's annoying, hu!? Hollywood misconstrues so many facets of life!. You'd be surprised at just how influenced we are by the media, and it's funny you should ask this particular question because I had a guy friend who literally thought you didn't go to the hospital until your water broke and out popped baby!. I had to set him straight, and boy was he horrified!. Ridiculous, isn't it!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

It basically centers around story pacing!. A story usually builds up momentum as it goes along and then at the climax really exciting stuff happens; Like when a baby is born!. The birth process is usually done quickly because dragging out the birth stuff for hours would usually destroy any momentum the story had been building up!.

It's not realisitc, obviously, but it makes sense in a way!. Sort of like how characters will travel a distance but it doesn't show them driving/walking all the way there -- that would drag out the story, too!.

I suppose it also has to do with a sort of romanticism of pregnancy too!. Birth is a pretty messy process and the media usually portrays women as being pure and clean!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Movies are never realistic!. Do high schools really have girls that are all supermodel worthy Porsche driving blondes!? No!. A movie runs through things quickly, saving the more important things for more detail!. So if a movie is centered around having a baby (like a new young couple or something), the birth scene might be more intimate with the audiences attention!. But also, lets face the facts!. Who really wants to witness a birth, acted out or not!? I think we all witnessed our share of that in sex-ed in school!.

Just remember, movies are the last thing you should really compare anything to, unless you really want to get your hair cut like that big new star, or if you are living in your own private little dream world!. Face reality, birth is a long process, but remember that in the end, our lives are real!.

Oh, and besides, how does a woman go through nine month of pregnancy in a 2 hour movie!? You see my point, I hope!.

Happy movie watching =DWww@Enter-QA@Com

A lot of things get condensed because of time considerations!. Think about how boring a crime drama would be if instead of lasting an hour or two it lasted as long as the investigation and trial actually did--months!. People are trying to get away from reality when they see entertainment films or TV!. I always crack up when I see someone at death's door, hooked up to machines in one episode and back on their feet hale and hearty in the next one!. No, reality is not that way!. And thats why we like fantasy and illusion!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

#1 - movies have a certain amount of time to tell their story!.
#2 - sure, pregnancies can take hours!. My first took a full day if you count the back cramps I had all day - he was born at 8:00 the next morning!. They can also go really fast!. My second son was easily half the time!. I didn't have the back cramps all day and he was born at 2:00 in the morning!. I've also heard of deliveries going much much faster!. Why do you think we hear about babies being born in the car sometimes!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

I'm guessing people don't want to see a woman screaming for about 2 hours with her legs wide open!. :P

Time is money!. They would want the birth to be brief!. Babies don't contribute that much to a story!. There is no point in elaborating the birth scene if the baby isn't going to be seen much again!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

First of all i don't think the movies want to dramatize women that much!. There is this part of your brains that makes you forget the pain at it's extrmety after childbirth so it's pretty bad!. Second of all, they don't want to make such a long movie!. Births would take up 5 or mor e movies and movies arn't just about the birth!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

because sometimes real childbirth takes many hours and really its long, boring and not interesting entertainment for most of it!. just a lot of waiting!. mostly movies want something entertaining and something with a quick resolution to it!. child birth is neither!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

they dont want to waste time showing how a baby is born when there are more important things that have to happen!. time is money for them!.

Knocked Up was based on childbirth and pregnancy so they had to make it realistic because it was the moral and base of the movie!.

do you really want a movie with an hour of it wasted on watching an X-rated child birth!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Movies fail to be realistic!. It is also kind of boring and awful to watch the whole pain of childbirth; I don't want to see it either!.

Most people enjoy the end result way more!. Oh look it’s a baby boy! Oh look the baby is black and “both parents are white!.” And thats a much better movie, haha!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

No one would want to sit through a movie depicting the hours and hours of actual birth they figure if youve given birth or witnessed it you know what it is and if you havent and they show you the real thing the population might take a serious dip!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

I think it is because in the majority of movies, the birth isn't the important part, so they do it as fast to get it over with!. also, for time!. If they were to make it realistic, movies would run rather long!.

peace<33333Www@Enter-QA@Com

Because they don't have time!. It would be totally boring and a waste of time to sit there watching tv for a long time with the woman screaming!. They need to speed things up!. And everyone already knows that thats now really how it goes down!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

because a movie averages an hour and a half in length and usually when a child is born that is not the focus of the movie necessarily so why waste the time and resources on shooting it!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Because they don't want to waste they're time and money on a scene that "isnt as important" Becasue for me child birth lasted 26 hours!. Weather you cut that short, or did the full thing, it would get boring!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Dramatic effect!. The real thing would be pretty boring to the viewing audience, up until pushing begins!.!.!.and even that can take longer than the average attention span of a movie watcher would tolerate!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

Because it would take too long!. Sometimes labor can take up to hours, not to mention the complications that could come with it!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

How can it be more realistic, my first labour went for 22 hours!. What, have a movie with a 22hours scene in it!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Then themovies wouldn't end in 2 or 3 hrs but a complete day , if it had to be more realistic!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

we only have 22 1/2 minutes to tell the story, OK!. Time compressionWww@Enter-QA@Com

I would not want to watch a movie that consisted of a woman being in labor for 17 hours!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

It's because we can't sit there watching the movie for 18 hours!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

duh their not gonna show the whole processWww@Enter-QA@Com

do you actually want to watch a movie waiting for the baby!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Lets put it this way!.
Would you like to sit in a movie theatre for a few hours watching somebody give birth!.!.!.

Well!?Www@Enter-QA@Com

Nobody would go see the movie!Www@Enter-QA@Com

Juno i say was the best at portraying it but if they spent like an hour filming child birth!.!.!.dats da hole movieWww@Enter-QA@Com

Darn good question!. I know it certainly wasn't quick for me!.!.!. 11hrs after my water broke!.!. i could finally hold my son!.Www@Enter-QA@Com

ummm cuz' it's in the script!?!?!?Www@Enter-QA@Com
