The Twilight movie will be based on the first book only!. However, due to the buzz surrounding the books and the upcoming film, they plan to make a movie for each subsequent book!. Similar to what was done with Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings!.
The movie, "Twilight" will stray from the book in many ways but author, Stephenie Meyer seems to be very pleased on how the film is going!.!.!.so that's a good sign!

Yes, I have read the Vampire Diaries Series!. Although the books in no way compare to the genius that is Stephenie Meyer, I did thoroughly enjoy reading them!. This series also explores vampires struggling with their existence!. If you are into the "new age" vampire genre then they are worth checking out!. Currently you can get the series fairly cheaply in two volumes:
The Vampire Diaries: The Awakening and The Struggle &
The Vampire Diaries: The Fury and Dark Reunion
