Once Ann escapes from his clutches on Skull Island, Kong could have let her go and forgotten about her. He would have remained ruler of his domain. But, he leaves his jungle in order to retrieve "Beauty", so the men are able to capture him. In New York City, Kong is relatively safe as their captive, yet he frees himself and, once more, begins his search for Ann, which leads to his doom.

Ultimately, it is the lure of Beauty that causes the death of the Beast. I don't recall if it is used in the remakes, but this quotation is shown at the opening of "King Kong" (1933):

"And lo, the beast looked upon the face of beauty. And it stayed its hand from killing. And from that day, it was as one dead."~Old Arabian Proverb

Apparently, Kong has killed the other women sacrificed to him. Basically, he is dead as soon as he becomes entranced by "Beauty" (Ann/Dwan, depending on the version).

Whatever film you watch, the young woman (Dwan in the first remake and Ann in the other two) is the cause of Kong's downfall.

His love for Naomi Watts (grrrr) is what drove him to climbe the top of the ESB

Kong loved... whoever that blonde girl was. Anyway... he was just trying to be with the girl he loved, and the people shooting him down thought that he was trying to hurt the girl. So it was that chick's fault he died!

*Lots of questions about this movie lately... Everyone must have watched it when it was on Spike. Lol.
