Suicide by Vader?!

Question: When Obi-Won stood with raised light saber and Darth Vader chopped him down, was it suicide, or just part of the plan to bring balance to the Force?

Obi Wan willed himself into the force (much like Yoda does in Empire). It was part of a bigger plan--by becoming an immaterial spirit guide he was of more use to Luke than as a feeble old man. He chose that moment because he knew that his disappearance would distract Vader from pursuing the Falcon.

He was not actually killed by Vader. He disappears right before the saber hits him. Witnessing this and then seeing Obi wan as a spirit also furthers Lukes education in the full possibilities and power of the Force.

That is crazy. My son just asked me the same question. You must be watching it on Spike right now too? Haha. I told him I didn't know but did he commit suicide? He just seemed to disappear. It looked like it even confused Vader because instead of chasing Luke and everyone, he first was looking around for Obi-Wan. Beats me!

I personally think that maybe Obi couldn't find it in his heart to battle his apprentice again. Especially after seeing the first 3 episodes and the tight relationship they had developed.
I think He was weary so I guess that would have been a suicide.
