Is is harder and harder to scare each generation?!

Question: In the 60's people were screaming in the theatres over the shower scene in Psycho and in the 70's people were terrified by the exorcist. Now people watch those and just don't find them scary (though Psycho is still brilliant, 'course) and now people go to the theaters to see "scary" movies, some of which have pretty realistic acting and great sound effects, and they go to the theater to LAUGH. You have to expect that now if you go to the movies to see a scary movie... lots of loud, obnoxious laughter.

Is each generation just tougher and tougher?

Without a doubt, we are desensitized to horrible things on a daily basis. Divorce used to be jaw dropping. A trip to jail used to mean you were disowned to the family. Heck a ticket from the police meant you were shunned by the neighborhood. No respect anymore, everything is a joke. No one wants to be responsible for getting their girlfriend pregnant. It is sad

The movies don't really scare anymore. They go for gross out factor. There they excel.

yes, We become accustom to the level of violence or terror in the media. What scared us as kids now draws almost no reaction. As we get older we become more desensitized because we have seen more.

I believe that nowadays, movies actually use gore, blood and screamers to try and scare us.
It's all special effects now, unlike old movies, that used the psycological factor to scare the audience. I actually prefer old movies, the only problem is that this new generation is looking for fresher, original ideas. Old movies just don't interest them.
But I must admit, I enjoy watching movies that play with paranormal phenomena. It's always a positive fright, because we can't really explain any of it just yet.
The unknown is an effective subject for a horror movie.

As an answer to the question, yes.
I do believe it's becoming harder and harder to scare the newer generations.

yes as entertainment and the media beceom more graphic and explicit it's harder to scare people with movies. also current scary movies are disgusting (ie. saw). special effects keep getting better too. personally though i wasn't born in the seventies but still find the exorcist terrifying haha
