The 1st (episode 4). It was so out of the ordinary and totally mind blowing with not only it's story and special effects, but sound track as well. It totally mesmerized it's audiences. You had to be there. Those who didn't see it until years after is first came out, who never saw what came before it and only saw it after seeing everything that came later, it is hard to appreciate it for what it was. Like Indiana Jones, Lucas took the action serials that enthralled our parents back in the 30's, and brought them back for a new generation (actually the next 2 generations).

Empire Strikes Back
-the revelations about Luke's family
-the attack on the Rebel outpost on Hoth
-the confrontation between Luke and Vader
-Lando and the betrayal at Cloud City
-growing relationship between Han and Leia
I can not just pick one it would be like trying to pick a time to breath. The best was 4 and the worst was 2 but i loved them all.
This is my order of favorite to worse
4,1,5,3,6,2
But i will say that when Lucas changed the ending of 6 it moved to the end of my list. Most of the changes were great but when he put Hadien in the end of 6 it make me mad. I personally hate Hadien he is so winnie in all of his movies.
Return of the Jedi. The Ewoks were stupid, but Vader's redemption made the movie worth it.

I just finally saw the final one Revenge of the Sith on T.V. last night. I really wanted to see it at the theater when it was out, but I couldn't find anybody to go see it with me.
Anyway, I was just thinking about your very question, when I got done with the movie. I was trying to decide which of all 6 I thought was really the best. I have to admit of all 6, I still think the original 3 were overall better films than the 3 prequels (or whatever you call them). Of the three original I have to say hands down the very first and original Star Wars (episode 4) is my very favorite. I have seen it so many times.
Of the final 3 that were made Revenge of the Sith was definitely the best. I just didn't think the final 3 appealed to everyone the way the original ones did. I loved the original Star Wars and I am not typically a fan of science fiction. I only went to see it because my brother was a big fan and he dragged my mom and I to see it. I loved it so much, as did my mom, so I saw the other two when they came out. When the final 3 were made I just didn't have much interest at first. I had heard a little about them, but never saw them. Then when I heard about Revenge of the Sith and how we would find out how Anakin becomes Darth Vader I really wanted to see it. I finally rented episode 1 and 2 just so I could see Revenge of the Sith when it came out, but as I mentioned before, couldn't find anyone interested in seeing it with me. Finally, last night when it was on T.V. my 16 year old son and I watched it together. We both liked it a lot, but again nothing compares to the very first Star Wars to me. I just loved all the humor in the first one and Darth Vader was so scary and mysterious.
Empire, you find out about Vadar, that there is another hope for the Jedi, Han gets frozen, and Luke gets his hand chopped off, I just think it had to best story
