At the end of the lord of the rings, why does frodo have to board the ship with !

Question: and where are they going?

i am so lost.

Answers: and where are they going?

i am so lost.

They're going to the 'grey havens' ~ Where the elves go when they leave Middle Earth ~ as they are immortal, the grey havens is the land of the undying.

Gandalf goes there because he came from there to begin with ~ he was not from Middle Earth ~ he was a Maia (He is mentioned in the book ~ the Silmarrillion ~ his name is Olorin in this book) ~ a Maia is a spirit which was created by Eru (a god like figure) ~ He was sent to Middle Earth to defeat Sauron ~ after that he could return to the grey havens.

Frodo was able to go on the ship because he had been a Ring Bearer who directly intervened in the demise of Sauron & because Arwen chose to stay in Middle Earth & become mortal, Frodo was allowed to take her place on the ship & go to the grey havens in her stead.

Hope this answers your question ~ Now you're going to ask ~ why didnt Sam go ~ he bore the ring briefly too...
In the appendixes in the book ~ Sam does get to go to the grey havens ~ many, many years later. After Rosie Cotton dies. (his wife)

he doesnt have to he makes the choice to because he has changed so much there is no longer a place for him at the shire and they are going to the new home of the elves

i think it's because he was so affected by the evilness of the ring

He carried the ring. It left a mark on him even after all that time. Plus the shoulder wound from the ringwraiths still hasn't healed and Elven magic will help ease the pain.

They are going to the Gray Havens (I think) because the Elves are leaving Middle Earth. Who knows what those are.

Samwise also carried the ring briefly, and (in the book) after he lives a good long life (and Rosie passes away), he also takes the ship.

He's been to much changed by carrying the ring, so he doesn't feel like he belongs anymore. They are going to the Grey Havens, which I'm guessing is kind of like paradise?
If you read the Silmarillion, there's a whole history of the place.

He had to bear the ring, maniac

Not sure... I usually turn it off by then.

Frodo has had an adventure to the ends of the earth and back. He, not the others, carried the ring with him almost the entire way. After such an adventure he just can't return to his old life. Frodo also was stabbed in the chest during the first book/movie which will scar him forever. For these reasons he decides to board the ship to the elf land and leave middle earth forever.

It's not really a question of Frodo having to go, it's more like he needs to go. The terrible ordeal he went through carrying the Ring, and the never-quite healing wound from the Nazgul blade at Weathertop have made his continuing life on Middle Earth harder and harder to bear---So he, along with his dear old Uncle Bilbo, are allowed to join Gandalf and the High Elves on their voyage out of Middle Earth and into the West, and into legend.

When Gandalf changed into Gandalf the White, it was because he "had to!" come back and do his mission with the fellowship, same way Galadriel has to leave because her ring has ended. Frodo however, is another story. If you notice frodo, he is constantly affected by his scar from the ringwraith, and he looks sick before he gets on. I think he was dieing before he got on. When he dose get on, you'll notice the color come back into his face. He did his task, and thats it, there is nothing more he can do, but I'm petty sure he would have died if he stayed in the shire, so he went with gandalf.
