Has anyone ever been an extra in a western movie?!

Question: I was just wondering if any one of you horsemen/women have ever been lucky enough to be an extra in a western movie? My twin sister and I have always wanted to do that. If so, how does a person go about persueing this? Just curious!

If they are shooting a western (or any kind of movie) in a certain area and they need extra riders, they will be looking for them locally first. No production wants to be flying a bunch of extras into a location. Usually local casting directors will post on craigslist or in the local paper for extras. When they shot Lord of The Rings in New Zealand, they just advertised locally to get as many horsemen/women out for the battle scenes. If you are in a rural area and hear that they are shooting a western in your area (and I don't know of many westerns being produced these days at all) - just keep your eye on craigslist and any requests for extras will pop up. If you live in a major metro it will be harder - they are not shooting a western in LA and if they are in Montana unless you are a proven stunt person they are not going to fly you there to work. But if you live in Montana you would have a decent shot. Does that make sense?

Not in any type movie. I live nowhere close to were they make movies.

Nope I haven't not yet at least ;)

There are agencies in big cities that deal mainly with casting extras. The director or casting director goes through the companies list of extras and if you're lucky they pick you out.
