yeah it was AIDS. She says it was a virus that the doctors weren't sure how to treat. AIDS was in existance then to the person who said it wasn't, it just wasn't recognized. There were probally alot of people who could have gotten it and died not knowing what had happened to them.

I don't think Forest got it because she took off after they were together and in the time between them sleeping together and little Forest, she may have had more insane living before he was born.
I think the ending was the best, because it really pulled on your heart strings. I cry every time that kid gets on the bus...especially cry when Forest asks Jenny if the little boy is smart or if he is....

I believe it is AIDS. I don't think he contracted it considering they slept together before she changed.

Cancer!

Yea, she mentions a 'virus' that they don't know what it is yet. I has to be AIDS, whic appeared in the late 70's, early 80's. I think the ending stinks, although it is one of the best movies ever.

Jenny specifically tells Forrest that she has a virus...so I think its AIDS.

Cancer is not a virus.

I always thought it was cancer, also. It really should have been specified.

Historically, AIDS did not exist at the time when Jenny got her disease!

no because now the story has a mysterious ending and if we find out then it wouldn't give us the feeling of what happened

In the movie, Jenny indicates that she has an untreatable "virus"--the AIDS virus (HIV)--which appeared in the United States in the early 1980s. AIDS was first reported here June 5, 1981, to be exact. Jenny did not have cancer, otherwise they would have shown her seeking treatment. If Forrest had run the risk of contracting the disease, I think Jenny would have contacted Forrest before she did. Most likely, but not necessarily, Jenny was infected after her pregnancy from a known carrier so that she was tested (not common practice back then) and found to be positive. Little Forrest was only 4 or 5 years-old when Jenny called upon Forrest for help.

I always thought she died of cancer until I watched it again. I'm pretty sure it was AIDS. She talks about this virus, they don't know what is and it is pretty obvious that good ole Jenny was a bit promiscuous. I'm glad the ending was the way it was because Jenny was never good enough for Forest. She was a tramp!
