Why did sci-fi channel cancel Farscape?!

Question: I recently bought all seasons of Farscape on dvd- and love the show-I think it's one of the best sci fi tv shows ever made.
I was left to wonder WHY did the Sci-Fi channel cancel Farscape? I do remember fans were outraged when it was cancelled- and the 'Farcape -the Peacekeep wars' specials were designed to placate the angry fans.

Given the ammount of crap on the sci fi Channel (from the B movies to the wrestling), one would think they would want to retain their best quality shows- yet Farscape was cancelled when it was at its best. Why?????

One possible reason I heard from a friend was because John Crihton was 'too American'- another being that everyone else was Australian....Odd that Ben Browder and Claudia Black wound up on Stargate..
Funny thing is the paranoia that struck Earth when John and friends visited Earth is exactly how Earth would react if we were ever visited by aleins- with fear, suspicion and bigotry,..

Would a Farscape movie work?

The official line was that it was "too serialized".

After a couple of seasons it wasn't picking up any new viewers because you had to have a good working knowledge of the show to be able to keep up with what the heck was going on.

Since no new viewers were coming on board, and some of the original fans had moved on to other things, plus the show wasn't cheap to produce......the Execs decided it was a losing bet.
