- Go to film school, the more expensive the better. Don't worry about devolping true technical skills, most film students couldn't tell you what an F-Stop is, all they know how to do is complain.

- Take classes like 'Film Theory' and 'Ramifications and Reprocusions of the 'Homer Simpson' effect on society.

- Make sure watch VERYYY obscure movies with total geeks so you can listen in on the insignificant symbolism of Godard or Bergman.

- Buy 8 dollar coffee and 30 cent t-shirts.

- Watch the same movie 7 times in it's opening weekend and study up on the important facts, you know things like the studio who released the film, what catering company they used, who was the stunt double for Larry the Cable Guy and who the Best Boy Grip was.

- Never watch a sporting event in your

Haha... I actually liked this. Try this: hang out with all these film nerds, take the fun parts, find the students that not only know what an iris is, but make the right choice when overexposing by a third of a stop, b*tch about the TAs that don't see the Avid's ghosting over composite inputs, and obtain a professional full-time job in L.A.'s industry within a year of graduation. Not a director yet, but as you said, step by step...
