Some Like It Hot~Marilyn Monroe was not the Roaring Twenties flapper-type in this. She is voluptuous~rather overweight~but luminous and stunning. Would it be the same film if they had an authentically thin jazz baby?
The Prince and the Showgirl~This is another film in which Marilyn is overweight, and the costume designer(s) and camerawork seem determined to assault her. Reportedly, the poor lady was miserable during filming, yet she manages to deliver yet another glowing, funny performance.
Homeland~It's not a romantic film, but it has its moments as a widow becomes housekeeper for a man she later marries. It's a rare lead role for Conchata Ferrell.
I believe that Marianne S?gebrecht has been cast in at least a couple of films in which she is the object of desire. "Bagdad Cafe" aka "Out of Rosenheim" is one that comes to mind, but I've only read about it and haven't seen it.
What about the films of Mae West? They're delightful, naughty comedies in which she wears gorgeous costumes and lots of jewelry and is desired by all the men she meets!
I've said this before: Isn't it sad that we have to try so hard to come up with a list of films about plus-size women, particularly romances?
