In the movie Troy, why does Brad Pitt's character not speak with an accent l!

Question: Aside fro the comments on Brad Pitts acting abilities, or lack therof, I would guess it's because while most, if not all, of the other kings and heroes were Greek, Achilles is supposed to be from a different island and bred from a different people. Thus the reason Ulysses must go and recruit him and the Myrmidons rather than Meneleous simply ordering them as he did the other Greek kings...

Because Brad Pitt can't do accents.

Not all actors and actresses can do accents, just as people in everyday life can or cannot mimic them. It doesn't mean someone is bad at acting, simply because s/he can't sound different. Most people who come to America from elsewhere never lose their own accents; people don't complain about them, do they? Cary Grant charmed us for decades and never sounded a bit different from role to role. Tony Curtis had a barely manageable accent yet succeeded in every type of role.

Why does it matter? No one else sounded anything like someone in that time period would sound. I don't recall anyone tackling a particular accent. What are they supposed to sound like? Do you honestly know? They all are speaking English, and we know they wouldn't. We accept that everyone is speaking the same language. Pretend he's from a different region than the others. That could happen! *giggle*

I'll never understand why people get so hung up on whether someone does or does not sound right. NONE of them sound right! Even Meryl Streep couldn't come up with a believable accent in these historical films. They're ALL winging it!

What I don't understand is why they even picked Brad Pitt to play Achilles in the first place....Achilles was supposed to be a big, burly, indefeatable warrior, the son of a goddess.....not at all what Brad Pitt is.

Because Brad Pitt is a bad actor and cant do accents.
