Zed is most certainly not dead. Peter Greene is 42 years old, and last had a major role in "Blue Streak" in 1999. I'm not sure who played the gimp, but I'm sure he's had a rewarding film career since his watershed role.
But yeah, he would have starved to death after a few days probably.
