Tom Hanks - Castaway ?!
Question: Great movie! It was for me anyway. My question centers on the scene where he has seen a huge whale (the whale definitely sees him before sliding beneath the waves) and just before the storm. He appears with a fish on his home made spear. How in the world can you catch a fish with a spear in the deep part of the ocean? Was this particular fish the slow, retarded kind? That just doesn't seem possible! Any ideas?

Hah, i just saw that movie too. The fish could not have been speared without some kind of pressure pushing on the other side of the fish to get it into the spikes, definetly a magical movie moment . By the way did u notice the whale blew out water to wake him up everytime something bad was happening.

camouflage, fish tend to congregate under objects that provide large shadows. although it is difficult to spear fish with a home-made spear, it is possible
You have to remember that it was only a movie it would have been better if he had a net, that would have made a lot more sense

thats funny. i guess the spear had to be super duper laser sharp.
I thought the fish was small for that part of the ocean. But he was in the water under the raft. It would seem possible that he speared one of a school of fish, although, it does seem unlikely.
