'No Country For Old Men' - What happened .........?!

Question: to the money/Loot ? I can't remember ! Who got it ?

Answers: to the money/Loot ? I can't remember ! Who got it ?

I wondered the same thing and according to the people who saw the movie three or four times they all agree that Llewellyn got the money but he didn't get it.

Anton killed Carson and Anton didn't even want to know where the money was even though Carson offered to tell him in exchange for his life. Anton said no deal and killed Carson. Carson knew the money was in the grass near the river bank.

But Anton was never after the money in the first place. He was playing his game. The two goals of the game were to 1) was to kill every player who had anything to do with the drug deal 2) who "sees" him.

Llewellym had thrown the money over the fence and afterwards he goes back to the store where he bought his boots and he buys all new clothes. There is a scene of him walking away from the river bank with the money while wearing the clothes he just bought.

Later on while still wearing his new clothes presumabley just shortly after he recovered the money in the grass, Llewellyn checks into the hotel with the blonde in the bikini, but he no longer has the suitcase with the money. The general consensus is that between the time he retrieved the money at the river bank and the time he checked into the hotel with the blonde in the bikinii that he hid the money somewhere only he knows and no one never finds out. And that's the last role the money plays in the movie.

So in Anton's game he kills the deputy who first arrested him and "sees" him. He kills the two guys who gave him the electronic finder where the shoot out in the desert occured. He kills the Mexicans in a motel. He kills the chicken farmer. He kills the guy who originally hired him to find the money, he kills the accountant who was in the office and "saw" him. He kills Carson. He kills Llewellen and the blonde in the bikini because she "saw" him.

Lastly he kills Llewellens wife. As part of the game Anton offers not to kill Llewellyn's wife if he gives him the money and allows Anton to kill Llewellyn. Llewelly turned him down. Anton tells her this, in response she tells him she just buried her mother. So he decides to give Llewelln's wife a second chance because she just lost her mother. But she refused to play his coin toss game. So he kills her.

The only two people who Anton didn't kill was the storekeeper who "sees" Anton, but he did play the coin toss game. The only other person he didn't kill was the lady in the motel who gave him a hard time.

He's about to kill her when he hears people in the room behind her. According to the game, they had not seen him, so he decides that he can't kill them because they haven't seen him, but if he kills the hotel clerk they would see him, but they were not originally present to see him, so as a compromise in his game. he let's her live.

the hombres man, the hombres

anton didn't take it....you all need to watch the movie again

The Mexicans got the cash when they killed Lewllyn at the hotel.

Pretty sure Anton nabbed it from behind the air vent in the hotel room where Llewelyn was shot when he returned to the scene later that evening. He made off with it through the bathroom window when Tommy Lee Jones came looking for him.

What happened? We wasted our time and money....what a disappointment. The only good thing about the movie was Llewelen.
The money is still over the bridge by the border. Bad guy got away, sherrif retired contemplating meeting his father in heaven.

Either the Mexicans or Anton...I don't think they exactly let that be known. The Mexicans had a beeper for the money same as Anton did and they beat Anton to Llewelyn and killed a bunch of people at the hotel, then Anton got there later after the police roped it off and the vent was unscrewed, so I think the Mexicans beat Anton to the money, but it wasn't clear on that.

Anton went back to the hotel where LLewellyn died, he got the cash then hid when the sheriff showed up. When the Jones went into the bathroom, he bailed.

The way I see it, the Title explains itself. Tommy Lee is old and lost his ability to stay one step above the bad guy as the bad guy wasn't caught. But that's only my opinion.
