The Big Lebowsky
I think it captures a side of life that movies rarely grasp. Most movies are either blatant hollywood blather that fit into some category (action, drama, comedy, etc...), or are ''films'', that you need a phd in history of cinema to understand. Outside of those two categories there are few films like ''The City of Lost Children'', or ''Pulp Fiction'' for example, that touch on something truely original. Of all of those movies, The Big Lebowski is the best of all time because it shows us how absurd life is.
It restored my faith in mankind.
Cheers dude.

Gladiator

titanic.
it shows a tru tragedy in history and its a love story!

Best is an elusive thing - I'll judge it by a movie that I can watch over and over and never get tired of it. That movie would be "Raiders of the Lost Ark" It has plenty of comedy, drama, action, romance and a little historical prevarication. The visual effects - even though they're over 20 years old - are still stunning and believable (probably even more so than they would be if the film were made today).

Runner ups:

Life is Beautiful
Back to the Future
The Wizard of Oz
Breakfast at Tiffany's
Schindler's List
The Great Dictator

Titanic? Good flick, nice visuals - but the scripting was trite and the acting was pedestrian.

Gladiator? Well I really liked the movie - certainly the best film of it's genre since Jason and the Argonauts.
