If you saw the movie The Proposition, and understood it, please explain it to me!

Question: So, I get that Ray Winstone can't find the main leader of this gang of outlaw brothers, so he tells Guy Pearce that if he can kill him, he'll pardon his brother Mikey, who is simple. But when does this supposed rape occur that everyone's in a snit about? Not at the beginning, I think, as it seems they are in some oriental whorehouse or something, and the lady's name who was raped was like Eliza Watson or some such, which seems not oriental. And why, at the end did Guy Pearce kill his brother and the other guy, and who was that other guy, another brother? A nephew? And actually, why did that dude throw a spear through Guy Pearce, if he was with his brother's gang? Didn't he know who he was? I heard a lot of good stuff about this movie, but I was kind of disappointed. I prefer when people's motives are clear. That's why I didn't like 3:10 to Yuma. Alright, thanks.

Okay, the guy that threw the spear at guy pearce was not part of his brother's gang, he was a savage native... so his brother saved him.

The whole reason Ray Winstone was after Guy Pearce's brother in the first place was because his gang killed and raped a pregnant woman - the Eliza chick. She was a friend of ray winstone's wife.

Guy Pearce kills his brother for the same reason he left his brother's gang in the first place... he has had enough of his crap. His brother is capable of some pretty nasty stuff.. and guy felt he had to be taken care of.

The "other guy" you speak of is just one of the men in his brother's gang. He was killed because he happened to be there at the time.... he was in the way. I like the film, be it is those kind of movies that you have to pay attention and really listen to the dialog.

This is the crucial proposition The Proposition misses: To make us truly despair about the face of violence, it must be firmly attached to someone we know, and not merely blown off someone we don't.

Rural Australia in the late nineteenth century: Capt. Stanley and his men capture two of the four Burns brothers, Charlie and Mike. Their gang is held responsible for attacking the Hopkins farm, raping pregnant Mrs. Hopkins and murdering the whole family. Arthur Burns, the eldest brother and the gang's mastermind, remains at large has and has retreated to a mountain hideout. Capt. Stanley's proposition to Charlie is to gain pardon and - more importantly - save his beloved younger brother Mike from the gallows by finding and killing Arthur within nine days.
