Why doesnt Netflix show the newest releases?!

Question: They have a list of Popular New Releases, but it doesnt show real new releases, only things that have released in the past several months. I have to look up the New Releases on another website, then type in the names to search on Netflix. They are always available on Netflix, but for some reason Netflix just doesnt show or advertise them. Why, am I doing something wrong?

I have asked myself the same question. I believe they do this because they know that new releases will be the most popular movies which means they will be the least available.

Go to whatever your format is (DVD, HD, Blu-ray) and look for the ones with the green tags that say "Save".

These are your actual upcoming new releases.

They don't need to advertise A titles that just released because those are the most likely ones to be "checked out." Most people respond to the huge amount of advertising that new big releases get and want to watch that big "hit" film immediately. When you have a finite number of copies, you're more likely to push people to those titles more likely to be available, than to push more people toward something you don't have available.

This is why the old, mom and pop, independent video stores have gone out of business. Everyone in town "needs" to see the new big hit movie TODAY, and tomorrow it's old news. That's how Blockbuster, who got sweet deals from the studios on the cost of movies, put hundreds of copies on the shelf on release day, putting small stores with far better selections, out of business, because people cannot resist the urge to see what the advertisers told them to see...NOW!

I have always felt it more satisfying to shop what's available and choose based on personal preference. That way, you're never disappointed and nothing you want is ever checked out. I can't see what the hurry is to see a film TODAY, and fight the crowds to get to it, when next week, there will be 100 copies collecting dust on the shelf! That just never made sense to me. I owned video stores, back in the day, and people would be near tears sometimes or actually angry that we didn't think ahead and get one more copy so they don't have to wait until next week to see a film that came out in the theaters six months ago...Just amazing!
