I need a typical American movie?!
Question: Hi there,
I'm doing a scientific research on subtitling for school and I need a movie that depicts something which is specifically American. My plan is to approach the technique used to translate something which is unknown for an specific culture (in this case Brazilian) in a way that it won't interfere with the understanding of the plot/specific scene. Dunno if I made myself clear...anyway, any help is much appreciated. Thnx in advance, Jen

"specifically American...unknown for a specific culture" That's a tough one. After much thought I figured it out!
American Graffiti. No where else in the world was there a culture about sock hops, diners, cruising, going off to college to live the "great" American dream, etc.
Even for some Americans this film seems foreign.
Shane
Glory, The patriot, Black hawk down.
Superman
american history x
Legally blonde =] interesting project, btw
American Pie
typical "american" movie would be, hands down, BULL DURHAM. relates the subplots involved in america's favorite pastime, BASEBALL, at the foundation of it all...the bush leagues. hope this helped!! blessed be.
EDIT: the only other one that is truly "american" in nature would be INDEPENDENCE DAY, as it's jam-packed with action, aliens invading, war, bloodshed, drama, etc., yet personifying the american spirit of "never say die." this is really the last example i have for you. again, blessed be. :)
Forrest Gump
american pie?
