Question about "The Notebook?"?!
Question: Okay so I just watched the notebook, and cried my eyes out!!!
I really enjoyed it, but i got a bit confused.
When Noah is older and living in the nursing home with Allie, how come he's referred to as "Duke" and not Noah?
Also, Do Noah & Allie have children? I got a bit confused when they grandchildren etc came to visit noah and allie at the nursing home. How many kids do Noah and Allie have? And could Allie not recognize them all that day at the nursing home because of her Alzheimer's?

The only explanation that I could come up with about them calling him Duke was because the nursing home knew what he was trying to do everyday by reading to her. They supported his efforts, and by calling him a different name, it let her think he was someone she didnt know, as not to freak her out. I cant remember exactly how many kids that were there with their children as well, but I think that they had two or three of thier own. She didnt recognize them at all because of her condition. Even her own kids asked Noah why they could keep coming because it was no use, she didnt recognize them. But at the end when she realizes who she is and who "Duke" is and they are dancing she remembers the kids and asks how they are. He tells her that they are fine, and that they were there earlier that day. That movie is so sad, I loved it though. I was hoping that she would stay better, I love miracles, and they really deserved one.
I would say watch it again

they do have children together. i dont know about how many children they have, but im guessing the little kids are the grandchildren, and the adults are noahs and allies kids. she couldnt recognize them because of her alsheimers, and i dont know why he is referred to as duke and not noah, maybe because theyre scared it might trigger something for allie, like at the end. i really dont know. sorry
duke is a nickname for him and and they do have kids and yes she couldnt remember them silly
They call Noah--Duke because while Noah is reading her the story they don't want to confuse her. She doesn't realize that she is being told her life story so if the "character's" name is Noah and the guy reading her the story's name is Noah she would figure it out and get very upset for not remembering or being able to comprehend what is going on around her.
They do have children they are the older ones who are talking to Noah outside and the younger children are their grandchildren. She doesn't recognize them because of her Alzheimers.
