How uncool is this?!

Question: I went to the movies last night and before the movie, even before the previews, there was 10 minutes of commercials.

What is the thinking behind this?

Does this annoy you too?

Happy Easter

Happy Easter

10 minutes? You're lucky. I usually face 3 minutes of TV commercials, 15 minutes of previews, and some "brought to you by" crap. This is on top of the pre-show show. Gah. You can be 20 minutes late for a movie and not miss anything.

It doesn't annoy me because it gives you something to watch while you wait for your movie to start. It used to be nothing but crappy music and now they have crappy music and then 20 minutes before the movie they have little shows for you to watch which I rather have than nothing.

Very uncool. And happy Easter to you, too!

yeah it stinks. especially when you have already gotten your snacks and all that stuff, so you really have nothing else to do. and happy easter to you too!

it is definetly uncool!

yes it does

What was even worse was the last time I saw a movie I decided to show up ten minutes after start time, to account for the ads.
But when I got there, the movie had already started?!
They're messing with us.

That's why there are people trying to have legislation put in that movie theaters need to start showing films at the time advertised as the start time. We already pay $12 for a movie now, and shouldn't be deceived into having to watch commercials, also. If they want to play commercials in the waiting time before the film start time, I don't care. But the movie shouldn't be started late to show commericals to the paying customers. If I were you, I'd send a written complaint to the management.

Very uncool...BUT...the cinema chains are paid good money to show these commercials. AND they subsidize the admission fee. If not for the commercials, we would be paying a lot more to get in. I guess we just have to handle it.

That's lame, the thinking is that if you're already in the movie you can't really get a refund just because of too many commercials. Also there aren't very many substitutes for going to the movies, I mean cause sure you could watch a rerun movie that you're seen 10 million times but to most people they'd rather just see the commercials and the movie. It doesn't really annoy me. I sort of enjoy the commercials, that way I can see what movies I might want to see later. This way anybody running late (like me) doesn't have to miss it. =)

They annoy me too. When I'm at home watching TV, I know that programming is supported by corporate sponsors and I expect to see commercials. But when I pay to see a 2 hour movie, I don't want to see commercials I see at home. 2.5 + minutes of commercials at home can be annoying enough, 10+ minutes of it sucks.

Yes! It has been happening forever here...commercials, previews and then the movie.

Halfway through the previews im like "what movie are we watching again?"
