How does anyone record a studio dvd to a hard drive?!

Question: Because I've been trying to find out how. Ever since Isaw this programm show stating that a recorded disc will get worn by in about 10 yrs. I've seen some option on recorded dvd's, but I never heard anything on hollywood dvd's. For example "Lord of the Rings" trilogy, after ten years it is worn out or destroyed. Do you have to get a new box set? men thats a rip off.

Generally, I ripped the dvd movies to harddirve as regular video format, thus they will take less space. about 700mb for a movie, and I will copy them to another harddrive in about 3 years. It is cheap to buy a new harddrive.
DVD ripper I used
