Anyone ever do a regional documentary?!
Question: I'm thinking of doing a "light" documentary about my hometown this summer and, as I have some marketing background, selling it in local shops and such. My town has a lot of tourists. I figure I could make a good deal of pocket change off them.
Of course, I want to keep cost down. What are some shoestring ways to make this? Some tips to save money on production? I already have a TV-quality SVHS camera.
Could I find some kid in a film school do do the editing super cheap if I give him a lot of raw footage? I'm a good storyteller and interviewer, so that end is not a problem.
Thanks.

I have never done this, but it sounds like an interesting and potentially profitable idea. I think your idea about having someone in film school or an intern, do the editing is a good solution to cut costs. I hope you get some other answers that can come up with other good ideas for you to pursue this. Good luck!
