On the new nick kids movie H2O why do they have to hold thier breath if they are!

Probably because they wanted the characters to seem more humanly than aquatic mythical being.
My daughter just started to watch this show. I didnt think that they had to hold their breaths while they were under water.
And why can Spongebob start a fire underwater? Nick's creative teams don't seem to care about aquatic stories making sense, unfortunately. They're probably just trying to help kids identify with the characters.
They aren't holding their breath, they just shut their mouths so that they don't get mouthfulls of water.
