Yes! One of the best romance/drama movies were made during the 40s-50s. Like what was mentioned, Casablanca.

But my personal favorites are Bette Davis films. The last movie I saw was Now, Voyager.

Yes I love old movies, anything with Fred and Ginger, James Stewart, Katherine Hepburn, Clark Gable, Cary Grant, Bette Davis, Danny Kaye, Gene Kelly, Cyd Charrisse...I could go on all day!

I like screwball comedies and musicals, and if I'm a bit down Shirley Temple cheers me right up - although those were made mainly in the 30s.

Essi - Didn't 'Now Voyager' make you cry - 'Why ask for the moon when we have the stars?'.

I prefer 20's Harold Lloyd non talkies. He was a genius, safety last is brilliant.

Yes some times I do and some times I don't if I don't get the movie then no other then that yes..

ehh... yea..
i enjoy the abbot and costello movies ..three stooges.. and a few old horror films...

Yes, I love Humphrey Bogart, James Stewart and Marlon Brando!

My favorite movie from that decade is Casablanca (too obvious, right?)

I was born in 1951, so, yes, I love the movies of the Fifties, having seen many of them at the theater and, more often, at the drive-in. In early TV in the Fifties, they used older movies as filler. Therefore, we would get to see movies of the Thirties and Forties especially; often, a film would be run each day of the week because there still was a lot of airtime empty and not many series or other things to show. I'll bet none of you can imagine that, can you?

We didn't even have "TV Guide" yet, so we just tried to catch whatever we could, remembering what date and time some of our favorites were. You had to battle with things called the rotar and "rabbit ears" (antennas) in order to try to bring in the channels better; generally, you had to have an antenna on the roof. We battled through all of that to watch shows that sometimes were barely visible due to "snow" (interference). I guess that made us diehard film fans if we endured that!

I probably watched "King Kong"~the original~100 or more times during my childhood, as well as movies such as "The Day the Earth Stood Still", which was released in 1951. I think it really surprised everyone that we could watch movies we had seen in the theaters. I'm not sure people knew it was OK to view films over and over till TV came along. Generally, a movie was at the local theater for a week, then it was gone, never to be seen again. Television helped save a lot of these.

Now, we have cable movie channels, VCRs (almost gone now), DVDs, videostores, Netflix, etc. Who knew we were going to be able to OWN movies?! *GASP*

Now, you've probably heard way too much from this old lady, but I'd like to list some of my favorites from at least those two decades. I'll try not to go overboard.

I love Some Like It Hot. Cracks me up!
I believe that was in the 50's. Could be the early 60's though, I'm not entirely sure.

Yes I just finished Golden Boy. Great movie!!!

I like the Sci-Fi movies of the 50's. My favorite is The Forbidden Planet.

Yes, but, MystMoonstruck blows me out of the water. I like watching those old black and white flicks, and those with the "Creatures", kind of lame compared to today's Special Effects. Remember the big 'ol mean spider- GIANT spider- The Creature of the Black Lagoon, and the original King Kong. All the men wore hats, as did the women, come to think of it. I like Fred Astaire/Ginger Rogers movies, with the dancing. I'll be struck down with lightening, but, I've never watched Casablanca. Guess I'll have to put that on my "to do" list, like Earl Hickey on "My Name Is Earl".

Yes and no, i do a film course at uni so while some films (having seen them the first time) i love like Casablanca, Gone With the Wind, after a really good first two hours drags on in the next two. ben hur was good but painful to sit through for so long and rebel without a cause is really good i felt as well. on the whole i think films that are called classics from that time aren't particularly classics. they're good films but i cant see what makes them that good

Some and its funny when you find you are into one that you did not think you would like and then you realise its one they have remade resently and not as good

the best ones actually!
