How to be a movie director???!

Question: What suggestions can you give me regarding this... I wanna be a movie director maybe five to ten years from now... I'm 17 and I am very much determined of having my own movie someday. In fact I got lots of plans... I can wait for long but I need to know what course to take, what school, the steps. I am residing in the Philippines and directing isn't rampant in Philippine culture compared to the hobbyists anywhere else. And if I'd take any film school, how many months or years would it take and most importantly, how much would it cost? And are there any good schools here in my continent?

Can you help me out? Please?

wow. it is freaky how alike we are. We are exactly in the same boat. I'm 17, an aspiring filmmaker, and residing in the Phils. as well. Except that I've already got my plan worked out. First off, the ideal course to take would obviously be Film. But as I have already searched, there aren't many film courses in major universities. But there is Communication Arts which is what im taking. It doesn't really matter what school, as long as it has a well-known respectable name like De La Salle or UP. Afterwards, I plan to study in a film school probably in the USA since I grew up there. New York, Hollywood, and Los Angeles are great places to study. But there are great film schools in the Philippines. There is one in Cebu that is exceptional and internationnally known: The International Academy of Film And Television. It's only about 6 months but rather expensive. Most schools can be around 6 weeks to 6 months and some 1 year. The same goes for another film school in manila which name I've forgotten. There is also the Asia Pacific Film Institute located in Mandaluyong City. All film schools are expensive so be prepared to pay around P10,000 for one term. Afterwards, I suggest doing short and/or independant films and entering film festivals. Hopefully, you will get offerred a job by a production company. And you will be on your way. But if that doesn't work out, you can work at a film production company as a production assistant and work your way up the ladder. Well, that's it. I hope I helped. Good luck to you brother. I hope we both make it. Dont forget to represent the Philippines. MABUHAY! hehe.

Probably the easiest way to becoming a rich successful director is by thinking of movie idea/guide line, create the movie you have in thought, add effects if needed (would be better)

I believe there is something called Amateur Movie Awards, you submit your movie and just wait. If you get chosen for the award you'll most likely get interviewed, in Canada you'd probably get interviewed by ET Canada, in the USA not sure really. I don't suggest film school, it's a waste of time, trust me I'm going to become a director. Getting into the Amateur Movie Awards and winning would get to go big! If your movie idea was excellent, other directors will buy your idea and create a film about it if your film was very good they will include your name in the credits. All that and in 3-10 years, you'll be a director!

Begin where you are with a camcorder. Thats how Spielberg started.
