The only thing I can think that the teacher would be talking about is "The Golden Compass", which recently had a big to-do in the press because the author is atheist.
For the record, the hoopla surrounding "The Golden Compass" is mostly based upon two quotes from the author. Both quotes, while certainly provocative in nature, are taken out of context, making them seem far more subversive and offensive than they are when the interviews are read in their entirety.
One of the quotes is “my books are about killing God.” But in the same interview Pullman says “That’s not to say I disparage the religious impulse. I think the impulse is a critical part of the wonder and awe that human beings feel. What I am against is organised religion of the sort which persecutes people who don’t believe. I’m against religious intolerance.” The “God” in his books is NOT the God worshiped by Christians. The God in his book is a false God in an alternate universe with a corrupt church trying to stop the spread of good and wisdom.
Another quote the anti-Pullman camp is jumping on is from a different interview when Pullman says, “I’m trying to undermine the basis of Christian belief.” What they neglect to add is that that quote is a *response* to a question about what he thinks C.S. Lewis would say about his work. He’s not saying that he’s trying to undermine Christian belief. He’s saying that’s what someone *else* would think. The author isn’t against Christianity, Catholicism or religion in general, he’s anti-religious intolerance and against the dogmatism and oppression of the church.
No Christian child who sees this movie or reads those books is in danger of losing their "faith" because of it. If they wind up "losing their faith", then they would have lost it anyway. It would have nothing to do with this story.
That's why people need to be SO careful about reading and trusting rumors like the ones going around saying to boycott anything like this movie and this book, and that's why it is so important that we *don't* censor. We need to be able to see and judge for ourselves. It's too easy for someone else to use their own agenda for saying such things.
There's probably a few movies like that. I wouldn't watch themm. There was that one childrens movie the compass or something that was a book that spoke against Jesus. idk if that's the one your thinking of though.

If your teacher is one of those who was given "bad word-of-mouth" to spread at the end of last year about THE_GOLDEN_COMPASS, there were religious people who said that the original children's novel series was anti-God - - readers of the books for a greater part objected to such glib characterization of what goes on in the alternate versions of Oxford University and the North Pole! Think for yourself after you have read the actual book not just the negative press. . .Thanks for asking for objectivity before you join in a boycott or other kind of economic punishing for that author's alternate universe imaginings.

The Author is a very outspoken atheist and the book series is like the Lord of the Rings of atheism.
