Gone Baby Gone - 9/10
This movie was the directorial debut for Ben Affleck. Let me start by saying that I hate Ben Affleck. I think the guy is a god-awful actor, can't stop from smiling no matter what role he is playing and is an abomination for other actors to have to share the silver screen with.
That being said, I was stunned at his first shot as a director. He adapted one of the most provocative novels (written by the same gentleman who penned Mystic River), and secured an outstanding cast with Case Affleck, Amy Ryan, Morgan Freeman and Ed Harris.
I have to say, being a movie-holic, I can generally predict just about any movie's plot twists and hidden agendas. But I was unable to guess the final outcome of this flick. It kept you guessing till the very end, and even at the very end, you were dead wrong.
The film really brings into question the morality of "always doing the right thing", and the virtue of "being the good guy". It is a breathtaking ride with mind-blowing performances from the leads. Casey Affleck is a force to reckon with in Hollywood, he knows how to set the mood, he knows how to play the part and he executive it with grace and panache. I was frankly surprised that he was nominated for his role in "The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Crawford" instead of Gone Baby Gone.
If you have not seen this movie yet, rent it, get some popcorn, get a good friend to share it with, and forget about the world for two hours. It will seriously make you think about the decisions we make regarding right and wrong every day of our lives.
