Is the "Boondock Saints" a controversial movie in your opinion?!

Question: My husband and I finally got it from netflix because we had heard that it was a great movie and really wanted to see it. It lived up to the hype. He's navy though, and we've moved quite a bit, but I've never seen a movie store that carries it. Do you know why?

Rent the documentary,"Overnight," about the making of the movie "Boondock Saints" if you really want to see something great. (But only if foul language doesn't offend you.) Though it opened in only a few theatres, it's met with quite a bit of success as a DVD, so I don't know why you'd be having a hard time finding it.

No more controversial than some of Tarantino's movies. I LOVED the Boondock Saints.

dont know why.i goto hollywood video and they have a few copies at the store i goto.i saw it in the safeway rentals too.blockbuster never has anything other than brand new movies so i never go there.its hard to find older or obscure movies there.

i rented the movie for the first time from a great store called scarecrow video then i bought the movie from best buy

scarecrow will find almost any movie you want - http://www.scarecrow.com/

I love that movie and I'm really not sure why you've had trouble finding it. I bought a copy of it at Best Buy back when it first came out, and now I see the special edition (with the cross or whatever it is on the cover) for sale whenever I go to Wal-Mart.

But to answer your question, I wouldn't say that it is controversial. There are a lot of movies that delve into much more delicate subject matter other than two brothers that turn into vigilantes and kill criminals.

The film is now probably a "cult classic." From what I've seen video stores are on a drastic decline thanks to Amazon.com and netflix. So, I suggest getting it from those retailers.

Apart from the senseless killing (which is omnipresent in the media), the only part I find controversial is the religious aspect. The movie seems to offer a deliberately callous and misguiding notions about Catholicism and consequently Christianity. The movie depicts two brothers who murder in the name of divine justice, which I find ghastly; the depiction is irreverent and wholly false of what Christianity is really about.

...Or perhaps that was the point; perhaps the director wanted to show the deluded, self-righteous, misguided, and fanatical side of psychotic religious beliefs.

Just to be clear... Christianity in no way suggests violence and anyone who claims to do evil in the name of God... is unequivocally nuts...
