Richard and Emmeline from the first movie have a son. That son is Richard from the second movie.
Isn't the guy in the second movie supposed to be the baby from the first movie?
Its a sequel because the main characters in the 2nd movie visit the same lagoon as the ones in the 1st movie.
I don't know about 'Return', but I think 'Blue Lagoon' is one of the most under-rated movies ever. It's a fine, sensitive film, not salacious at all, but I think it was ahead of its time in portraying realistic sexuality. And aside from those scenes, it has an interesting storyline. The critics should update their ratings.

I have them at home, and I know they are not really related, but I can't remember how to explain it (it's been a long time since I watched it.) So I went searching for the answer.
Although the title rather suggests a sequel to The Blue Lagoon, this is rather a variation on the same theme- neither Christopher Atkins nor Brooke Shields returns - Emmeline is dead, but a new generation is shipwrecked again on a desert island. This time the two kids, Richard and Lilly, have no experience in the civilizes world at all, and have to discover everything on their own, but loves proves an indomitable instinct, even given a 'choice' of one inhabitant per gender.
