I can't find this movie anywhere???!
Question: For forever, I've been looking for an old shark attack movie, where a writer/reporter and a crusty old captain go out to kill a big shark, which had been terrorizing a local swimmer's beach. Like Jaws, this movie has a stupid and greedy mayor, who won't close the beaches because if there weren't any tourists the town would lose money. I remeber seeing the movie over 25 years ago, and it quickly disappeared. Like I said, it was like Jaws, but it seemed bloodier. Can anyone help with this one???

...you're talking about the Italian-flavored 1980 'Jaws' knock-off, entitled "Great White", which starred James Franciscus and Vic Morrow; the film did INDEED disappear quickly, as Universal Studios sued to have the film pulled from U.S. screens, for being too similar to their movie. To this day, the film has yet to see release on video, in any format, and to be quite honest, they need to reexamine the film, as although it contains elements similar to the original 'Jaws', in many other ways, it IS different, very interesting & entertaining...and much more exploitive (...I've had a duped bootleg of the film, for years; I remember trying to go see the movie myself, back then, and ended up seeing another movie, when I found out that "Great White" had been suddenly pulled from release)...

I remember a movie about a Killer Whale that seemed to have ripped off Jaws.
It was called Orca the Killer Whale.

Fright is right, it was the Italian movie "Great White". I remember seeing it back then, and being ticked off cuz it was such an obvious cheap rip-off of "Jaws". I don't blame Universal for going after them.
And for the record, "Orca" (one of my personal "guilty pleasure" movies) wasn't technically a "Jaws" rip-off. It had a completely different setting (a small fishing village in Newfoundland) and storyline, about a fisherman trying to catch an Orca, but he ends up accidentally mortally wounding the pregnant female of a mated pair. The male goes after the fisherman out of revenge. The storyline is silly and obviously impossible (vengeance is a human trait -- not animal), but the cinematography is incredible (especially for that time -- '77), and the soundtrack is hauntingly enchanting.
